Meditation

I find meditation to be a necessity in Wicca. It not only helps propel the spells of which you've cast, but it also revitilises the mind body and soul.

There are many many ways to meditate and you just have to find the right one that suits you.

I find that using candles and incense sticks (especially jasmine or lavender) is extremerly beneficial. You need to relax all of your senses, your sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch.

To Start:

  • Make sure that you are clean, have a bath, brush your teeth... this is not only for hygiene... but it helps relax the soul and banish impurites.
  • Make sure you have the telephone turned of... it is not good to be shocked out of a trance... believe me this can be not only scary but can cause health problems.
  • Make sure that you know nobody is going to walk in on you, this isn't for embarrasment, this is for safety. When I go into a trance my body is so relaxed that although my mind is active, I cannot physically move my body for at least 10 minutes when somebody has appeared.
  • Make sure you are safe... do not use candles if you are meditating lying down, if you fall asleep which I have often done, this could be dangerous. If using candles, make sure they are on a suitable surface and away from any drafts.
  • Wear loose clothing, or none at all with a simple blanket covering you... nothing more annoying than trousers digging into you while you're trying to relax!
  • Make sure you know what you are doing.
  • Turn the lights off! This relaxs your sight.
  • Make sure the room is quiet.

As said before, there are many ways to meditate. Personally I like to lie down. It takes practise to master the art of meditation. You may not experience anything the first 100 times you do it, but afterwards you WILL feel more relaxed, and hopefully, one day, you will have a spiritual experience.

Meditation Lying Down

Lie down on your back, use incense if you require, or oils. Close your eyes. Relax your arms by the sides of you with your palms facing up. For the first few minutes take deep breaths, breathing through your nose and out of your mouth. Get a good relaxing rhythm going.

Once you are breathing correctly, and you have emptied your mind of other thoughts, you are ready to start relaxing. Start at the bottom of your body, your feet, and imagine them relaxing, slowly relax them, and as you complete this, go up your legs, up your torso, up to your head, and down your arms to your hands. It will take a good 10 minutes, even more, to do this step.

After you are relaxed, concentrate solely on your eyes... relax them... concentrate on it... feel like you're falling... and eventually... when you have mastered the first few steps... by this stage... even if you try... you just will not be able to open your eyes... they'll feel heavy... and your whole body will be relaxed.

Having been relaxed, just basque in it for a while... get used to the feeling... if you want just stop at this stage... master this stage thoroughily before going on to the next.

Once mastered... again, start at your feet and in your mind, imagine a warm white light circling around you, creeping up your entire body until you are surrounded by this light... this takes a while and a lot of concentration... but once you have got there... you can start properly meditating!

Meditating Sitting Up

Get into a comfortable position. I recommed sitting on the floor, legs crossed, palms up on your knees. You can also use incense for this one and put 5 candles around you to represent the points of the pentagram.

For the first few minutes, concentrate on breathing deeply, through your nose and out your mouth until you get a good rhythm. Empty your mind of all thoughts.

Basque in this position for a few moments, get used to the feeling and learn how to control that feeling.

Next, starting from the bottom of your body... like your sat on a cushion... concentrate on relaxing your body... starting with your bottom and legs, and going up through your torse, up to your head and down your body.

Again, like with the lying down, start concentrating on your eyes, make them feel heavy, and soon you will not be able to open them. Practise relaxation before you go onto the next step.

Once fully relaxed imagine you are sitting on a white cloud, floating and free. Imagine that white cloud coming up surrounding your body, slowly whisping against your skin, until your whole body is surrounded.

If you have managed to get this far... that is called a trance.

At this stage you may wish to ask the God and Godess to surround you with the white light of love, to protect you and keep you from harm, to guide you and make sure you are safe.

From here you can do almost anything.

You can just basque in the sense of pure spirituality, cast an incantation, wish to travel through the other side, or even go on an astral travel.

There are many many meditations out there... I will write about some one day... but I find the simpliest ones are the best. Imagine yourself being in a big green field, the sun is warm, the air is pure and it is quiet... once you have visited this place a few times, you may start seeing spirits of those who have passed, or even, your spirit guide. It can be quite scary sometimes, and you may even think you're hallucinating, but these beings wish you no harm and can do you no harm.

If you wish to visit a spirit guide, this is how I personally do it. Once in a trance stage, I imagine myself on a beach, leaning against a palm tree, bear footed in the sand. There is a cluster of palm trees near me, and I know my spirit guide is there. I smile to her and will her to come out and say her name. Sometimes this will work, sometimes it will not. It takes practise... a LOT of practise!

If you wish to astrally project, this is even harder. It is basically an out of body experience. I have managed to do this since I was very very young and have experimented with it, and I know it really does happen. To astrally project you need to be in a VERY deep trance. You need to imagine yourself sitting up, slowly. Imagine that you are simply stepping out of your body. It takes a lot of concentration and willing. Once you can do that, you just have to will for yourself to go somewhere. People see these astral projections differently. For me personally, its like being under water. Everything is blurred and I can't see things very well, and the sounds are as if I am under water. But it is amazing. I have been through many astral planes, and it can be very fun. If you would like to know more, feel free to email me :)

I always find when meditating, that it is benefial to have some good relaxing music... but make sure its long enough to complete your phases! I have found these ones which I shall share with you... these are chakra ones though, and some people find the level a bit irritating... feel free to use the music on the other pages all which should start straight away... and all that I created :)
